I bought a denim jacket from a thrift store and decided to do a fun and easy DIY to give the jacket more life for it's new home! I hope you get some inspiration!

Supplies needed:

Up-cycled denim jacket (better to get a used one to help the environment), Sponge applicator, paint brushes, tape, fabric paint, fabric marker and a stencil of your choice. (I got mine on Amazon for $5)

Step 1:

Tape down the stencil where you would like it onto the jacket, to ensure that it does not move around while you are painting over it.

Step 2:

Using the sponge, put a light coat of the paint of your choice over the entire stencil. May need more coats depending on how opaque you want it to be.

Step 3:

Go in with another color on the same sponge brush and lightly dab it in a few random places over top of the first color. This will give a really cool effect when the stencil is taken off.

Step 4:

Go in with another color of your choice (best if it's lighter) and start to lightly sponge around the bottom, sort of in a "U" shape.

Step 5:

Go in with one of your other fabric paint colors (preferably a darker one) and dip it in a large amount of paint. Carefully drip/splatter the paint wherever you think it looks good.

Step 6:

Use your fabric marker to write/draw whatever you would like to, below the stencil. You may want to trace something out first. (I did not trace it out, so it could look better).

step 7:

Gently peel the tape off of the stencil and slowly pull it up, off of the jacket.

You are done! Just make sure to let the paint dry for 24 hours and then carefully heat set it with a dry iron!!

Final product!
