We all have those days when we just feel off or down and don't know why. Sometimes when I have a day like this, there is nothing that I do that can turn it around and that is okay! It is perfectly healthy to have down days because we would not enjoy the great days without them. However, most of the time, I feel that I have ended my day with a happy attitude and an array of accomplished tasks! I wanted to share a few tips and tricks of small things that I do throughout the day that can make a huge impact on my overall productivity and happiness.
Those were just a few things that I strive to include in my life every single day and I hope you will test them out as well. Life is short so lets not waste the potential that it has to offer us! Let me know your thoughts in the comments and as always, thanks for stopping by!
Hi friends, Long time no talk! I have been very busy the last few months with work, school and life in general!
I have also been busy with many thoughts in my head about whether I am truly happy with my life or if I am simply going with the flow of society and what I think is best for myself. I know that this isn't an uncommon thought and I am sure many of you have had the same types of thoughts once in a while. I am a generally happy person but I have recently been thinking of ways to make my life more fulfilling/enjoyable and I thought I would share.
For starters, I have thought a lot recently about how important it is to be grateful in your everyday life. I think most people tend to forget just how lucky they are for what they have, that others may only dream to have. My tip for you is to start out every day by either writing down or thinking of a few things that you are grateful for. I have found this to help my overall mood and to create the best outlook to start the day with. I will give an example of what I am grateful for today. I am grateful that it is a beautiful sunny day, I am grateful that I am in good health, and I am grateful for the roof over my head.
Another super important part of living your best life is to give yourself some time to do what makes YOU happy. A lot of times we may find ourselves rushing through life, bending over backwards to ensure everyone else is taken care of before ourselves. In the past few years I have realized how big of a damper it is on my overall mood when I do not take time to be alone with my own thoughts and to do something that makes me feel fulfilled. Whether it is taking yourself on a little outing to get coffee, playing your favorite music while you relax or even exercising, it is important to take time for yourself. Recently I started taking guitar lessons which has been a great way to involve myself in an activity that I genuinely enjoy and can do all alone. It is okay to say no to an activity with friends and spend time getting to know yourself and is in fact, very healthy for your mind and overall spirit.
In a totally opposite direction, another very fulfilling part of one's life is taking time to pay it forward. I am sure you have probably heard the term 'Pay it forward' before and recognize how important it is. Simple acts of kindness can truly brighten someone's day. You never know what someone is truly going through and probably don't think that something as small as smiling at them or holding the door for them, could help turn their day around. For instance, I work as a receptionist and I find it so refreshing when someone calls the office and takes time out of their day to ask how my day is going or how I am doing. Whether they genuinely care about my day or not doesn't really matter to me. It is the fact that they cared enough to ask a stranger how their day is going. Small things make a difference I can promise you that.
Lastly I want to remind you of something very important that many of us often forget.
You are the only one in charge of your life and YOU have the power to move it in a positive direction if you are willing to put in some hard work and keep going until you get where you want to be. I can relate to feeling sorry for yourself when you are down on your luck and wanting to blame circumstances or anyone other than yourself. I have to remind myself constantly that I am the only one capable of creating the life that I want to live. After you believe that, you can truly take the next step to work towards that final goal. Take some time to evaluate your life and if there is something that makes you unhappy CHANGE IT! It may take time or money or letting go of friendships or lots of hard work, but I promise, you are capable of more than you think you are.
Until next time, XOXO -Maddie.
Hi friends! I was trying to decide what to talk about today and I figured I would share a pretty huge part of my life that I have been dealing with for the past 6 months. I decided after years of struggling with acne to go on a short-term medication called Isotretinoin (better known as Accutane or Roaccutane). I am going to explain what the medication is and how it has worked wonders for me as you can see in these photos.
I know Accutane has very mixed reviews and opinions in the acne-struggling community. I assume most people have heard of this medication but for those who have not, I will explain in the words of my dermatologist just what it is. Isotretinoin or Accutane is a retinoid, which is basically a concentrated from of vitamin A. It works to dramatically reduce the size of the skin's oil glands by 35-58% and therefore lessens the amount of oil that your body is producing by up to 80%. Since acne bacteria lives in skin oil this reduction of oil also reduces the amount of acne that your body produces. Sorry for the boring medical talk but that is, in a nutshell, how Accutane gets rid of pretty much all of your acne and reduces the chance of it ever coming back as severely as it once was.
I have struggled with mild to severe acne since I was about 15 years old (I am now 20). I told myself that I would NEVER try Accutane because it is known to have so many horrible and possible long-lasting side effects. These possibly include; dry lips (DRY EVERYTHING lol), dizziness, hair loss, headaches, back pain, depression, loss of child if you become pregnant and much more! Sounds pretty scary right? After trying basically every other option to help my acne, nothing was working. So this last October I decided I was OVER IT and wanted to do anything to get rid of my acne. I got on Accutane (which let me say is a long hard process) and saw positive results in about 3 weeks of treatment. The entire treatment for me personally has been 6 months. I have not had a single pimple/zit/whatever you want to call it in about 3 months.
I am now on month 6 and last of my treatment and could not be happier! I did experience hair loss, back pain, nose bleeds, dizziness and dry everything lol, but I would not change a thing because I can now feel confident in my own skin for the first time in years. For anyone else struggling with acne and thinking about trying Accutane I would suggest to do your research and make sure you are ready for the side effects, blood work and constant doctor visits. BUT I would also say that I am a firm believer in this medication now and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be able to feel comfortable in their own skin because that is something that everyone deserves.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far! Leave a comment for any other topics I could touch on in my next post! XOXO

I did a poll on Instagram and a lot of people seemed to be interested in me doing a "tattoo tour" where I show you all of my tattoos and explain what they mean to me. I think that tattoos are an amazing form of art and I figure why not decorate the body that I am stuck in forever with what makes me happy? Keep reading if you are interested and feel free to comment any thoughts or suggestions for new posts!

1. "La Vie Est Belle"
2. and 3. A lot of love and a beautiful rose
I decided about 7 months after my first tattoo to get a couple more. Only this time I went with one of my best friends in the whole world so that we could get a matching piece! I went with a little rose on my inner arm as well as text on my forearm that reads, "Spread Love". This one is pretty self explanatory. I think it is a good reminder to myself whenever I look down to be positive in this sometimes negative world we live in and to teach others to remind others to spread love as well. This tiny rose has huge value to me because of its feminine power and since I got it done with one of my dearest friends, I will carry that memory forever.

4. A baby "Om" on Friday the 13th
Now this tattoo has a funny backstory. We've all heard how some shops do $13 tattoos on Friday the 13th right? Well last year I decided it would be fun to go get a tiny tattoo. We get to the tattoo shop (A Wicked Sensation in SLC) and there are a TON of people. So I fill out some forms and wait for my name to be called. About 2.5 hours go by and we're like okay what's the holdup?? So finally I ask and it turns out the lady I requested is extremely popular and people were having her do 3 or 4 tattoos each.. yikes. So long story short we wait another hour and I tell them that I will get it done by whoever if I can just get it over with already! So the owner of the shop ended up doing my small piece and it took her a solid 25 seconds and it was over.. lol. Moral of the story, don't get a tattoo done on Friday the 13th unless you plan to wait 5 hours. Overall however I don't regret it and I really love how it turned out! I have attached an image of the meaning of the Om symbol for those of you who aren't familiar.
